John Grey Painting is celebrating 50 years of business in Southwest Florida. John began painting and learning construction in the late 1960s when his parents bought and refurbished a two-story beachfront hotel on Fort Myers Beach. Painting and construction remain a family trade handed down to John’s two sons, Nate and Derrick, initially employees now equal partners in the business.

“We are proud to be a part of something our father built from the ground up, and hope to carry on his mission of providing a total quality experience,” said Nate. John Grey Painting is best known for its decorative Faux finishes, murals and patterned floors. They provide services to commercial and residential clientele, including full interior and exterior carpentry, sheetrock and stucco work.

“We are delighted with the generosity of John Grey Painting,” said Lion Tom Nachazel, club president. “It is because of businesses like theirs that we are able to provide the community with an outstanding arts and crafts festival annually.”

The Arts & Crafts Fair is a long-standing island event showcasing the works of more than 100 talented artists and crafts people on the Community House grounds. Inside, there will be numerous silent auction items ranging from pieces by local artists, restaurant and jewelry gift certificates and much more. Money raised through the fair will go towards various Sanibel charities, vision and hearing based charities and local scholarships.

Zonta’s Peek at the Unique

Don’t miss Zonta Sanibel’s Peek at the Unique. We are proud to sponsor this event.

Saturday, March 10, 2018 is the date of the 17th annual “A Peek at the Unique,” the record-setting home tour and signature fund raiser for the Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva and the Zonta Foundation of Southwest Florida. A sought-after day out for islanders, seasonal residents and visitors from off island, the “Peek” has invariably sold out every year.

The guided tour of four island homes, each one unique in its own way, takes about three hours. Guests ride comfortably on air-conditioned buses with an experienced tour attendant and receive specific information about each home visited. Prior to boarding, they enjoy delicious refreshments provided by leading island restaurants and caterers. The tour departure point will again be the Sanibel Community Church, reopened after extensive renovations and improvements.

Funds raised come from tour ticket sales, business sponsors, individual benefactors and Chance at the Unique Raffle ticket sales. Proceeds from the 2017 Peek were the highest ever, and the club will soon distribute over $90,000 in grants to local organizations that focus on improving the status of women. This is in addition to over $27,000 pledged to Zonta International in support of global initiatives that target women’s needs for health, financial independence and freedom from violence and slavery. The monies raised by the Peek are distributed in grants by the Zonta Foundation of Southwest Florida, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit group, to local and international organizations that are consistent with the Zonta mission: to empower women and girls on island, in Lee County and throughout the world.
